
Carole, a native New Yorker, is a tenured faculty member of Human Services, Natural and Applied Sciences Department at LaGuardia Community College/City University of New York in Long Island City, New York. She is also Coordinator of Deaf Studies AA Degree Program at LaGuardia.
She teaches courses in Human Services, American Sign Language and Interpreter Education. Since 1976, Carole is an educator, a trainer/consultant in the fields of: communication, language and cultural studies, language and interpreter assessment, human relations, and teacher training. She received a BA degree in Psychology from Gallaudet University and her MA from New York University in Counseling and Rehabilitation. She worked toward her Ph.D. degree in Curriculum Development and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University.
Carole has given numerous presentations locally, nationally, and internationally. She has been featured in local newspapers and television for her work pertaining to communication and accessibility issues and needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing people. New York City Cable 1 selected Carole as New Yorker of the Week, and as a result of this event, an article was published about her life and work in Biography, a national arts and entertainment magazine (1/97). As a Visiting Professor at the University of the Virgin Islands, Carole received a Humanitarian Award from St. Croix Deaf Coalition, Inc. (3/99). Carole was selected as a featured national Storyteller at Storytelling Festival, St. Louis, MO. (5/00).
Andy is a graduate of the NJ School for the Deaf and obtained his BA from Gallaudet University and has worked many years in the business world. He has extensive experience in teaching ASL. He is a Master Signer, especially in telling stories using classifiers, numbers and sports. He is a creative ASL storyteller and has given numerous storytelling lessons and classes. He is currently a freelance ASL instructor and works with people to enhance their communication at home and at work.
