Mentoring
The interpreters evaluated the program and services provided by Ms. Eighinger. These evaluations indicated that her work was unanimously valued and appreciated. Her expertise soon became apparent to the interpreters and they eagerly sought her input. Because of the enormous success of Ms. Eighinger's work, the position has been increased to a full time, ten month position.

In 2003, I made up my mind that more than anything in this world I wanted to be a RID Certified Interpreter. I found out about Signs of Development. I went to the web-site and saw Keith there. I had been to some w/shop that he was at and I thought he was such an awesome person and I knew he was a good teacher. I started asking around about Lynne. Out of 7 people everyone of them said this about her "she is good and she knows her stuff." So I did the 6 months mentorship.
This is what I have to say about the program.
  1. Lynne was always right at my finger tips. I have never had someone respond back to me so quick.
  2. I was able to set up a schedule to meet with her that worked around my family, my work, and outside activities.
  3. I learned how to become friends with a camera. I learned that taping myself made me a stronger interpreter. I couldn't hide from the camera and all my strong points and weakness were on tape.
  4. I learned that somethings that I thought were weakness in my interpreting were actually strong points for me. I also found things that I never noticed in my interpreting that were problems.
  5. I learned how to watch myself on camera and find my postives and negatives. I think this tool helped me the most.
  6. I was able to talk to Lynne about things I would never discuss in a w/shop.
  7. Lynne gave me activities that overwhelmed me at first. Once I got the hang of doing them it was very easy incorporated into my interpreting. Mapping was the most benificial on and probably the hardest one to learn. She also gave me information to read. I thought that was good also. When I was in college for the training I learned the material to pass the test. Now that I am in the working world I realize how much I need to read just to understand the process of interpreting. I know that sounds weird but the material makes more scense to me now.
  8. I know the problem I saw when I went into the mentorship with her are no longer the things I work on. I feel like they are water under the bridge now.
  9. I recommend Tom's workshop visualization CD. I learned so much from that CD. I have watched it about 4 times in the last yr. Everytime I see it I am amazed and motivated by it.
  10. I would recommend this program to anyone. I feel like in the last yr I have matured so much in my thought processing, organizing my thoughts before putting them out, I feel I focus more on the whole picture than on words, and for the most part I don't feel rushed when I do a job. Of course, I'm not perfect but now I see the good and the bad when I am working not just the negative. I hope I have answered your concerns. I am a returning customer just because by the end of this year I hope to be certified. I feel like I am closer than I have ever been and I owe a lot of that to Lynne.
Good Luck
