Frequently Asked Questions
CEU Paperwork Mailing Address:
QUESTION: How long does it take to have my CEUs show up on my RID transcript?
ANSWER:It could take as little as two months or as long as four months to see your CEU credits on your RID transcript depending on RID's work load. This is because Signs processes CEUs within approximately 30 days after receipt of your documentation. CEU sponsors have up to 45 days to process paperwork after a workshop to submit but in many cases, depending upon workload, time of year, etc. we do process them more quickly.
Signs submits Activity Reports to RID in batches from receipt of completed sets of paperwork. If ER processing is needed, ER paperwork will be processed and sent to RID in the earliest available batch instead of the normal 30-45 day after your documents are received. Despite having submitted paperwork to RID, it may still take time to appear on your transcript depending on when RID completes their approval and data entry process.
The entire process from submission to Signs to the updating of your online transcript could take anywhere from two to four months.
Signs will provide you with a confirmation of receipt once your completed CEU paperwork has been received and a certificate of completion once your paperwork has been processed. Your information or a copy of your certificate will then be sent/forwarded on the national RID office and/or your state. This will serve as verification of completion. In the unlikely event that RID fails to upload any WWWorkshop to your transcript, Signs will assist you in having the information corrected! As long as the WWWorkshop has been completed and you have your certificate of completion in hand, you can rest assured that the issue will be resolved positively!
QUESTION: What do I do if I do not see my CEUS on my RID transcript?
ANSWER: Signs provides two confirmations in regards to CEU paperwork processing. If you have received one for receipt of you paperwork and another for completion of processing, the issue is outside of Signs and you would need to contact the national RID office. Contact the national RID office and provide them with the date of completion for the activity in question.
QUESTION: What category are Signs' CD WWWorkshops under: General or Professional Studies?
ANSWER: All of Signs' CD WWWorkshops are classified under Professional Studies. At the state level classification may differ (these are on a state by state basis) for our WWWorkshops. For states that have other criteria to meet, please contact us directly at as we have had agreements with most states on how to classify our CDs according to each of their unique systems.
QUESTION: How do I earn CEUs for study group participation?
ANSWER: This depends upon the study group:
QUESTION: How do I know if I need to process my CEUs via the ER (emergency) method?
ANSWER: If you are approaching a deadline for completion of your CEUs that is less than 30 days, it is safest to process your CEUs via our emergency processing system. This system will process your CEUs outside of our standard once-a-month process and will process your paperwork individually and send it on to the appropriate certifying body. The cost for ER processing is an additional $25 per WWWorkshop.
QUESTION: What is the best way to submit my paperwork?
ANSWER: While most of the paperwork is received in our offices without any problem, there have been instances where either the faxed paperwork did not go through or the information was lost or destroyed in the mail.
QUESTION: How do I know if I earned my CEUs for a WWWorkshop?
ANSWER: This question may refer to two things:
On all Signs' WWWorkshops, there is a checklist of things needed to be submitted to ensure proper CEU credit. Please make sure that you print the checklist and make sure you submit a copy of all of the items requested:
WWWorkshop completion form (properly and very legibly filled out with the serial number, your certification number or whatever identifying information needed by your certifying body, phone number, e-mail address, etc.)
Evaluation form - you may send this form anonymously under separate cover if you wish
Payment if applicable - if this is a borrowed WWWorkshop or you are viewing this as a participant in a WWWorkshop viewing, you will need to submit the equivalent to $6.95 per hour. The amount of hours can be found in a number of places: online at our website on the products page, on the front of the CD, on the top of the WWWorkshop completion form. Simply multiply the number of hours by $6.95 to come up with the price to send in for your SWAP credit. For example, a 6 hour workshop (.6 CEUs) will cost $41.70. Make sure and put the serial number on your paperwork so that the owner of the CD will get credit towards new WWWorkshops.
If you are unsure of whether your work is sufficient or whether you passed the post test, we let participants know immediately if there is a problem with any of their paperwork. Work that is incomplete, partial, or sub-standard will not be accepted and will be returned to the participant for completion.
QUESTION: How do I know if I've passed the post test for my WWWorkshop?
ANSWER: You are free to go back through the WWWorkshop numerous times to verify the information and to ensure that your answers are correct. We rarely receive post tests that fail because of this. There is no time limit for completion and all of the post tests are "open book" so take your time, review the materials, and submit after you are satisfied that the post test questions are correct. In the event you do not pass the post test with at least 70% accuracy, we will notify you so that you can resubmit it.
QUESTION: What is the cost for receiving CEUs on WWWorkshops?
ANSWER: There are two ways that you can obtain CEUs by viewing a WWWorkshop:
If you borrowed the CD from a colleague, organization, or library OR you were a participant in a workshop where a WWWorkshop was shown, you will need to print the WWWorkshop completion form that is on a page directly following the WWWorkshop evaluation form. Complete the WWWorkshop completion form and submit with an amount equivalent to $6.95 per hour plus any applicable ER processing fees. For example, if you borrowed a WWWorkshop that is 7 hours (.7 CEUs), the total to send is $48.65. If you would like ER processing, please submit an additional $25 to expedite your CEU paperwork.
QUESTION: How do you determine how many hours of credit each WWWorkshop is worth?
ANSWER: For all WWWorkshops, we "time" the estimated time, factoring varying speeds of computer processors with which a person watches our WWWorkshops, it will take to go through the WWWorkshop including watching the videos, participating in the activities, journaling in the activity journal, and completing the post test. Some participants work at a deeper level to complete the WWWorkshops and are more detailed in their journaling while others provide a summary of their work and less detailed. Both are acceptable even though the latter will take far less time. Not submitting an activity or activity journal will result in the paperwork not being accepted. The benefit of these WWWorkshops over on-site professional development activities is that you can review these at a later time, work at a depth that is most meaningful for you, and work on them at your leisure pausing your work at any time and resuming at a later, more convenient time.
QUESTION: What is an activity journal?
ANSWER: For all WWWorkshops, there are activities that must be completed. The participant must keep an activity journal documenting the activity work. Participants go through our workshops and approach them with a variety of depth. The more depth obviously means that the participant benefits more yet also takes more time. All activities must be approached.
QUESTION: What if one of the activities contains a Website link that is no longer functional?
ANSWER: This happens occasionally because some time might have passed since the presenters developed and filmed the workshop and there may be links that are no longer functional. If this should happen, find a suitable replacement activity by doing a Google search for a website with similar information or replace it with a book, CD, etc. with similar information from which you can complete the activity. Then let us know by emailing us at email@example.com the workshop you were viewing, the section, specifics about the activity including the url that did not work and the replacement activity. In most cases, the replacement activity will be acceptable.
QUESTION: What if one of the activities is not accessible to me? For example, it asks me to work with a team interpreter or attend a specific function and I am not able to do so?
ANSWER: This occasionally happens and while we hope that you will attempt to make it work as the presenter has described, the most important thing about these WWWorkshops is that they are applicable and meaningful to you and your unique situation. Simply send us an email at with an idea for a replacement activity and how you will document it. Please provide the WWWorkshop you are viewing and the activity that should be done as well as detailed information about the activity you will be doing in replacement.
QUESTION: If the activity asks me to videotape myself, do I have to send in the videotape?
ANSWER: This, as has been described in most WWWorkshops, is strictly for your benefit. You never have to send in a videotape to us unless you would like to for mentoring purposes. When a WWWorkshop asks you to videotape your work in order to analyze it further, this taping will provide you with the maximum benefit for the activity.
QUESTION: What if the activity asks me to videotape myself and I don't have access to a video camera?
ANSWER: We understand that some people do not have access to some materials and/or equipment requested in the WWWorkshops. For this reason, we have attempted to provide options. You should, to the best of your ability, try to analyze your work without the benefit of videotaping and journal that.
QUESTION: How in-depth do I have to be for the activity journals?
ANSWER: The activities are meant to be beneficial and meaningful to you. The depth to which you approach the activities is an individual decision. Of course, the more you put into the activities, the more you will benefit from them. Some people are, by nature, more detailed. Signs is looking ot make sure you did the activity - the depth is not a factor unless it is questionable that the activities were completed. We will notify you if this is the case.
QUESTION: Is there anything I need to fill out for RID?
ANSWER: No, apart from the forms that are contained in the WWWorkshop which include COPIES of your:
QUESTION:Why is it important that I send a copy of my work (evaluation, WWWorkshop completion form, activity journal and post test) and not the originals?
ANSWER: In most cases, there would be no problem with submitting the originals and we recognize that it may create an inconvenience to you to make copies. However, we have had a few instances where people have sent in originals that were either lost or destroyed in the mail. We regret that we cannot provide CEUs for submissions without all of the necessary paperwork. If you have maintained the originals and something untoward should occur to the copies you have sent, you will only be inconvenienced by having to make an additional copy and resend. If, however, you sent your originals and didn't maintain a copy, the inconvenience would include having to go through the WWWorkshop again and completing a new activity journal, post test, evaluation form, and completion form. The request to send copies of the original is to safeguard your time and effort put into going through the WWWorkshops in the event they are lost or destroyed.
QUESTION: Can more than one person watch a workshop and get credit?
ANSWER: Absolutely!!! Through our Signs' SWAP program (Sharing WWWorkshops Accrue Points), any number of people can view the same CD and earn CEU credits. There is more information and a videotape in ASL explaining the SWAP program located at: .
QUESTION: How will I receive my certificate of completion?
ANSWER: At Signs of Development, we attempt to make your professional development experience as simple as possible. We send our certificates of completion via email which is why we require that you provide us with a legible email address on your WWWorkshop Completion Form. It is important you check your spam filter if you have one activated to make sure that our email goes through. Also, if you are using one of the free email services or a service that blocks attachments, please make sure that you enable attachments and have sufficient email space to receive these certificates via email. We do not fax or mail any certificates and that is for the purposes of tracking and resending should the need arrive. If you do not have an email address, kindly provide us with the email address of a friend, colleague, or family member who can retrieve the certificate and print it for you.
QUESTION: What do I do with my certificate of completion, do I need to send it in to my certifying entity for credit?
ANSWER: No, we do all of that work for you as long as you have provided us with the information needed to send it along to your certifying entity on the WWWorkshop Completion Form at the end of every WWWorkshop. If not, then you'll need to send it yourself. Maintain a copy of this certificate to verify credits at the end of your CEU cycle should that be necessary.
QUESTION: Can I use the CEUs from one WWWorkshop for credit with more than one certifying body (e.g., use the same .6 CEUs earned for one WWWorkshop for RID and for a state)?
ANSWER: Yes, most of our customers hold dual certifications. All states, ASLTA, and RID accept our WWWorkshops for CEU credit. It is possible to receive credit for one WWWorkshop with RID, ASLTA, and as many states from which a person can hold credentials. We have had occasional requests from teachers and social workers to have our WWWorkshops qualify for continuing education units in their industries. For example, Deaf Child Development benefits those who provide counseling to Deaf children and K-12: A Deaf Perspective can be valuable to teachers working with Deaf and hard of hearing children.
QUESTION: If I borrow a CD or watch a CD at a WWWorkshop viewing, what information do I need to send in?
ANSWER: All of the forms needed are contained in the WWWorkshop and you need to send COPIES of:
QUESTION: What do I need to send in to Signs of Development to make sure I get CEU credit?
ANSWER: Copies, not originals, of:
QUESTION: How do I know how much to send in for payment of SWAP?
ANSWER: Payment if applicable - if this is a borrowed WWWorkshop or you are viewing this as a participant in a WWWorkshop viewing, is equivalent to $6.95 per hour.
